Biography

Bratislava, Slovakia born vocalist, guitarist and composer Zuzana Suchankova lives currently in Bratislava. In the ´80s, after leaving private studies, she started to perform in various soul, jazz and fusion formations as Song or Soul Finger. Besides countless recordings at Slovak Radio, she participated in many blues, soul, jazz festivals around Slovakia and other countries nearby.

Zuzana Suchankova is a singer and guitar player, whose repertoire consists of blues, soul, jazz and original songs. She is consided part of the absolute top of this genre on the Slovak music scene. Her velvet coloured voice, marvellous feeling for this music, and ability to sing blues,soul, spirituals and playing guitar mixes very well and will remind you of some of the most prominent soul-blues-jazz singers. Her presentations are always moving and you feel like you are sailing in her soul. Not everyone can offer this kind of music and what is really important for it – the soul!

After her extended private lessons with Frantisek Tugendlieb, endless gigs with blues bands, soul groups, spiritual concerts, shows and hotel club work in and around Vienna, Zuzana has become the leading blues, soul vocalist, guitarist here in Bratislava and around formal Czechoslovakia. That deserves wider recognition. She shared the stage with various famous artist from Slovakia, Europe, USA like: Peter Lipa(SK), Martin Valihora(SK), Gabriel Jonas(SK), Juraj Griglak(SK), Bobos Prochazka(SK), Peter Bonzo Radvanyi(SK), Dura Turtev(SK), Karen Caroll(USA), Gwyn Ashton(Australia),Peter Rowan(USA), Sean Carney(USA), Amelia Ray(USA), Maria José Estivariz(ESP) and others. Zuzana, who is influenced by Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Carolyn Wonderland, Susan Tedeschi, Bonnie Raitt, Ruthie Foster and many other soul, blues and jazz artists, has blended lush harmonies with a raw spiritual blues style that is rarely implemented outside of Chicago.

Her recordings Spiritual Way, promo Jazz & Party Music are an example of not only her great talent, but also of her dedication to the spirit and joy of blues and jazz. Although there are fewer and fewer venues offering blues and jazz in Bratislava, Zuzana is gratefully keeping her itinerary full with club dates, concerts and private parties.

The winter 2009 saw the release of Suchankova's new studio album entitled Bluzy & Songy. The album features half and half reinterpratation of the famous blues songs and original tunes of Zuzana Suchankova with slovak lyrics in blues, soul style. After release of this album, Zuzana returned to touring Europe and around Slovakia.
